Manufacturing Permissions and Troubleshooting
If a menu is missing or an action is blocked, it's almost always one of two things: the module isn't enabled, or the user's role doesn't have the right permission. Your administrator manages both under Settings → Users & roles.
Permissions, in plain language
| Permission | What it unlocks |
|---|---|
| View manufacturing | Access to manufacturing screens |
| Create / edit BOMs | BOM maintenance, plus workstation and machine maintenance screens |
| Create / release work orders | Work order planning and release |
| Production entry | Posting production entries, material issues, and Shop Floor Terminal sessions |
| Quality inspect | Performing quality inspections |
| View reports | Statistics, Daily Report, and the OEE Dashboard |
| View / edit scheduling | Viewing the Scheduling Board; editing needs a separate permission for drag-and-drop rescheduling |
The Shop Floor Terminal, Time Log, OEE Dashboard, Material Requirements, Lot Trace, and Genealogy all ship as part of the Manufacturing module — there's no separate license to enable for any of them.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I release a work order? The BOM may have no components, or the work order has no lines. Open the BOM, confirm it's Active with components, and try Release again.
The BOM is active but I can't edit it. Edit a copy instead, or set it inactive, edit, and reactivate — this protects live jobs from a silent recipe change.
Stock didn't move after production. Confirm the production entry was actually completed — either directly or via the Shop Floor Terminal's Complete Session — that the warehouses on the BOM and work order are correct, and that your role has inventory posting permission.
Where are workstations? Under Manufacturing → Workstations, and linked on a BOM's operations. The same workstations power the Scheduling Board and OEE Dashboard.
Do I need HRMS? Not for the basic flow. HRMS helps you assign employees to operations, work orders, terminal sessions, and time logs.
Do I need Labour Scheduling? Not for the basic flow. When licensed, it lets Work Order Details show operators on shift and flag operator-coverage gaps against a workstation's required staffing.
Can I complete a Shop Floor Terminal session with nothing logged? No — log at least one tap first, or Abandon the session with a reason if it shouldn't have been opened.
Why does the OEE Dashboard show a rough Performance number? You haven't started using the Operation Time Log for that workstation yet, so Performance falls back to an estimate. It sharpens automatically once operators start clocking in and out.
Why can't I drag a work order on the Scheduling Board? Only Draft, Planned, and Released orders can move. In Progress, Completed, Closed, and Cancelled orders are locked so you don't accidentally reschedule work that's already happening or done.
The Genealogy panel is empty on a completed entry — why? Either the finished item or its raw materials aren't marked batch-tracked, or the material issue lines didn't have batch numbers recorded. Genealogy needs batch numbers on both sides to link them.
