Build the Packaging Hierarchy

The packaging hierarchy describes the physical pack structure — how many eaches fit in an inner pack, how many inner packs fit in a case, and so on — used for labels and cartonization.

:::info Hierarchy vs. BOM This screen describes physical pack structure. The packaging BOM describes material consumption per unit. They're independent — neither is derived from the other, and you don't need one to use the other. :::

Add a level

  1. From the Packaging Specs list, click Units on a spec to open Packaging Hierarchy for that item.
  2. Review the spec summary card — net weight, gross weight, and GTIN.
  3. Under Add Packaging Level, choose a unit type: Inner Pack, Case, or Pallet. The Each level is implied and doesn't need adding.
  4. Enter units per parent — for example, 6 eaches per inner pack, 4 inner packs per case.
  5. Optionally add the level's gross weight, external dimensions, its own GTIN-14, and the outer packaging material.
  6. Save. Levels appear in order, and each unit type can only be added once per spec — use Delete to remove one.
