Cartonize a Sale
Cartonization suggests how to pack a sale's items into your carton types using First Fit Decreasing: it sorts items heaviest-first and drops each into the first carton with room, by weight and volume, opening a new carton only when needed. It's a soft suggestion — you can re-run, confirm, or void it, and it never blocks the sale.
Before you start, make sure you have at least one active carton type.
Run cartonization
- Open a sale invoice and click Cartonization, or open Cartonization from the Packaging menu and pick a sale from the history list.
- Click Run Cartonization. Biznsbook packs the sale and shows a summary — status, total cartons, total gross weight, total volume — plus one card per carton listing its items, quantities, batches, and gross, dimensional, and billable weight.
- Assign a tracking number per carton as they ship.
- Confirm the result once it's ready, or Void & re-run if something needs adjusting. A confirmed result can be sealed.
:::info Where item weight comes from Item weight and size come from the item's Packaging Specification first, then its packaging BOM, and finally a zero-weight fallback — the item is still listed, just with no weight or volume. Fill in the spec's dimensions for the most accurate packing. :::
Print the packing list and labels
- Packing list — an A4 PDF with a section per carton, item tables, weights, tracking lines, and a totals footer.
- Carton / shipping label — a 100 × 150 mm label per carton with the ship-to block, "CARTON N OF T," contents, weight, dimensions, and a GS1-128 barcode. Print it from Print Carton Label on any carton card.
Automatic cartonization
Turn on Auto-suggest on sale in Cartonization Settings to run this automatically whenever a sale is created or edited — you can still review and adjust the result afterward.
:::tip If cartonization doesn't run It's not related to the sale failing — cartonization never blocks a sale. If it can't run (for example, no active carton type exists), the sale still completes and the issue is logged. Add an active carton type and use Run Cartonization to try again. :::
