Configure Cartonization Settings
Cartonization settings are per company, and created automatically the first time you open the page.
Open the settings
Go to Cartonization Settings — this needs Manage access.
| Section | Fields |
|---|---|
| Algorithm | First Fit Decreasing (FFD) — the only active option today. Best Fit and 3D bin packing are listed as "coming soon"; selecting either still packs with FFD for now. |
| Packing buffers | Volume buffer (0–50%) for irregular shapes and void fill; weight buffer (0–30%) for packing materials |
| Carrier settings | DIM factor (100–250; UPS/FedEx = 139, DHL = 111) and an optional preferred carrier |
| Automation | Auto-suggest on sale — runs cartonization automatically when a sale is created or edited. Require cartonization for delivery — blocks delivery-note create and post until the linked sale has Confirmed or Sealed cartonization |
| Stock deduction | Optional toggles to issue linked packaging materials or cartons from inventory — see below |
Click Save Settings. An Algorithm Reference card on the page explains how FFD works, and what Best Fit / 3D will do once released.
Optional: deduct packaging stock automatically
Three independent toggles let cartonization and consumption actually issue inventory, once materials and carton types are linked to an Inventory Item ID:
| Toggle | Issues stock when... |
|---|---|
| Deduct packaging stock on work-order complete | A manufacturing work order completes |
| Deduct packaging stock on cartonization confirm | A sale's cartonization is confirmed (also covers packaging BOM materials, if work-order deduction is off, to avoid double-counting) |
| Deduct packaging stock on kit sale | An Inventory kit with a packaging BOM is sold |
If a toggle is off, a link is missing, or a stock issue fails, recording still succeeds — these paths never block a sale, a work order, or a cartonization confirm.
