Packaging in Biznsbook: An Overview

Packaging is where structured packaging data lives — materials, cartons, per-item specifications, and the physical each → inner → case → pallet hierarchy — feeding a live cartonization engine, a label designer, and a monthly sustainability dashboard. It sits right beside your existing item records rather than in a silo of its own.

What you can do

  • Catalogue packaging materials — resin codes, weight, cost, supplier, and recyclability
  • Build a carton library with auto-calculated volume and weight limits
  • Define a packaging specification per item — weights, dimensions, and a GTIN-14
  • Describe the packaging hierarchy — each, inner pack, case, pallet
  • Build a packaging bill of materials — the materials it takes to pack one unit, with automatic cost and weight roll-ups
  • Cartonize a sale automatically, then print a packing list and carton labels with tracking numbers
  • Design your own label templates with live-data tokens and GS1 barcodes
  • Track a monthly sustainability dashboard — total packaging weight, recyclability rate, and recycled-content rate

:::info Packaging isn't a compliance filer It manages packaging data and prints labels — it doesn't record food-traceability events or file regulatory returns. State EPR packaging-law reporting is handled by a separate EPR Packaging module; see Packaging permissions and troubleshooting for how the two relate. :::

  1. (Optional) Ask a Site Administrator to seed common materials and carton types under SiteAdmin → Packaging Material Seed.
  2. Add materials and carton types of your own.
  3. Create a packaging specification for an item.
  4. Build the packaging hierarchy, if you ship in inner packs, cases, or pallets.
  5. Build a packaging BOM so cost and weight roll up automatically.
  6. Configure cartonization settings.
  7. Design a label template, or rely on the built-in fallback.
  8. Cartonize a sale and print the packing list.
  9. Review the Sustainability Dashboard once a monthly snapshot exists.
