Run the Kitchen Display System

The Kitchen Display System (KDS) puts your kitchen on a screen: every completed POS sale turns into one or more digital tickets on a station board, timed and color-coded by age. It's completely opt-in — nothing happens until you switch it on, and turning it off makes sales complete exactly as before.

Turn it on

  1. Go to Settings, find Kitchen Display (KDS), and tick Enable KDS. Optionally turn on Per-line tracking and set a ticket font size. Save.
  2. On each recipe, set its Default KDS Station — Grill, Fryer, Cold, Bar, Expeditor, or All-Kitchen. Items with no active recipe default to All-Kitchen.

How tickets are created

On sale completion, Biznsbook looks up each item's recipe station, groups lines by station, and creates one ticket per station — a steak and a cocktail becomes a Grill ticket and a Bar ticket. Ticket numbers read T{table}-{seq} for dine-in or TK-{seq} for takeaway.

Using a station board

Open Restaurant → Kitchen Display → KDS Dashboard (needs View kitchen display) for a station picker with a live ticket count per station. Open one — or Expeditor View for all stations — for the full-screen board:

  • Each ticket card shows its number, table and covers, an age timer, and the item list, grouped by course when multiple courses exist.
  • The border escalates by age: greenamber (past warn threshold) → red (past urgent threshold).
  • The board polls every 10 seconds with ETag caching, updating only changed cards — no flicker, no special hardware.

Courses: hold and fire

Set the default course on the POS table banner. Course 1 shows on the board as soon as the sale posts. Course 2+ stay held — invisible to the station — until front-of-house taps Fire on the table chip and enters the course number.

Working a ticket

Drive each card through its lifecycle with one tap: AcknowledgeStartReady (raises an "order ready" alert for FOH) → Bump (clears it, recording total time). Void removes a ticket that shouldn't have been made. With Per-line tracking on, individual lines can be bumped; the ticket auto-bumps once every line is done.

Managing stations

From the KDS Dashboard, open Manage KDS Stations (needs Manage restaurant settings) to set each station's name, type, display color, warn/urgent thresholds in seconds, and sort order. Unconfigured boards use built-in defaults — warn at 5 minutes, urgent at 10.

KDS Analytics

Open Restaurant → Reports → KDS Analytics (needs View restaurant reports) for total tickets, average ticket time, average covers per ticket, average duration by station, and ticket volume by hour.
