Set Up FDA Food Traceability

Do this once before day-to-day receiving and shipping. After setup, most Critical Tracking Events record themselves from GRNs, transfers, and sale invoices.

Activate Traceability Plan → Flag FTL items → Add supplier details

1. Activate a Traceability Plan

  1. Open Traceability Plan → Create.
  2. Set the version and effective date, and name a point of contact.
  3. Describe your data procedures, FTL identification process, and TLC management approach.
  4. If you are an originator (farm or grower), upload a farm map.
  5. Save. The new version becomes active and the previous one is archived. Use History to review past versions.

You need Manage traceability plan to create or edit plans.

2. Flag your FTL items

  1. Open the item from Inventory → Items and edit it.
  2. Expand FDA / FSMA 204 Food Traceability Settings.
  3. Turn on Is FTL Item and set the FDA product code, food category, and country of origin.
  4. Save.

Only FTL items generate FDA CTEs — everything else is unaffected. An item can also be marked Covered by SFCR in the same accordion if you license both.

3. Add supplier traceability details

  1. Open the supplier under Parties and edit it.
  2. In the supplier traceability section, enter the FDA registration number, GLN (Global Location Number), grower name, farm name, farm state, and the FDA-facility-registered flag.
  3. Save. These feed trading-partner fields on receiving events.

:::warning FTL items need batches Receiving an FTL item without a batch number will not create a Receiving CTE. Turn on batch tracking for those products before go-live. :::
