Set Up SFCR Canada
SFCR Canada reuses the same lot-code and event engine as FDA Food Traceability, but stores events tagged for Canada and exports only to CFIA formats. Complete this setup once before day-to-day work.
Activate Preventive Control Plan → Flag SFCR items → Add supplier CFIA details
1. Activate a Preventive Control Plan
- Open Preventive Control Plan → Create.
- Set the plan version and enter the CFIA licence number.
- Describe your hazard analysis and preventive control measures (required).
- Optionally add sanitation, pest control, allergen control, and traceability procedures.
- Name a point of contact (stored with the plan notes).
- Upload the PCP document (PDF or Word).
- Save. The new version becomes active and the previous one is archived. Use History for past versions.
You need Manage SFCR plan to create or edit plans.
2. Flag your SFCR items
- Open the item from Inventory → Items and edit it.
- Expand the FDA / FSMA 204 Food Traceability Settings accordion (shared when FSMA and/or SFCR is licensed).
- Turn on Covered by SFCR (Safe Food for Canadians Regulations).
- Save.
Only SFCR-covered items generate SFCR CTEs. An item can be both FTL and SFCR-covered — the two flags are independent.
3. Add supplier CFIA details
- Open the supplier under Parties and edit it.
- In SFCR Canada — Supplier Compliance, enter the CFIA licence number and set CFIA establishment registered.
- Save. These feed trading-partner columns on the CFIA ESS export.
:::info Same batch engine SFCR uses the same TLC allocation and batch tracking as FDA. Make sure covered items require a batch on receipt — see Track expiry, batches, and recalls. :::
